Brentford beat Ipswich

There were four 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League on Saturday, with some intriguing ties producing some eye-catching results.

Brentford and Ipswich played out a remarkable seven-goal thriller at the Gtech Community Stadium, while Wolves came from two goals down against Brighton to earn an important point on the road.

Champions Manchester City narrowly beat struggling Southampton, who are now enduring their worst ever start to a league season, and Bournemouth left it late to snatch a draw against Aston Villa.

Read our round-up below to see what happened across the top flight.

Aston Villa 1-1 Bournemouth

Evanilson scored a 96th-minute equaliser as Bournemouth left it late to snatch a point at high-flying Aston Villa.

Ross Barkley had broken the deadlock with a quarter of an hour left to play at Villa Park, but Bournemouth’s Brazilian striker levelled to earn an impressive point for Andoni Iraola’s team.

Brentford 4-3 Ipswich

Ipswich’s hunt for a first Premier League win of the season goes on as they fell to a 4-3 defeat in an entertaining contest with Brentford.

An enthralling game at the Gtech saw Ipswich race into a 2-0 lead through Sammie Szmodics and George Hirst, before two goals in two minutes for Brentford saw the two teams go into the break.

Bryan Mbeumo then gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot five minutes after the restart before Harry Clarke, who had scored an own goal in the first half, complete a miserable afternoon when he was sent off on 69-minutes.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Kieran McKenna’s side drew level through top-scorer Liam Delap but Mbeumo added a second deep in stoppage time to take all three points.

Brighton 2-2 Wolves

Brighton thought they had done enough to claim victory over struggling Wolves after goals from Danny Welbeck and Evan Ferguson gave them a 2-0 lead with five minutes of the game left to play.

But late strikes from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha rescued what could prove to be a valuable point for Wolves.

Manchester City 1-0 Southampton

Erling Haaland scored his first Premier League goal in four games to extend City’s longest ever unbeaten run in the Premier League to 32 matches.

The result moves Pep Guardiola’s side to the summit of the Premier League, for 24 hours at least, while Southampton remain rooted to the foot of the table as pressure mounts on manager Russell Martin.
