Tottenham have appealed against the legnth of Rodrigo Bentancur’s seven-game ban by the FA for a racist slur about team-mate Heung-min Son.
Spurs say the accept the guilty finding by an independent regulatory commission, which also included a £100,000 fine and a mandatory face-to-face education programme.
The 27-year-old was charged by the FA in September for comments made while appearing in his home country in June.
Host Rafa Cotelo asked for a Spurs player’s shirt to which Bentancur replied by saying: “Sonny’s? It could be Sonny’s cousin too as they all look the same.”
Bentancur expressed remorse for his comments, while Son has suggested they have moved past the issue.
Spurs said in a statement: “We can confirm that the club has appealed against the length of Rodrigo Bentancur’s FA suspension, issued earlier this week.
“While we accept the guilty finding against Rodrigo by the independent regulatory commission, we believe the subsequent sanction is severe.”

What games is Bentancur set to miss?
Bentancur is currently suspended from domestic matches until 26 December.
As it stands, he will miss Premier League matches against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea among others, plus Spurs’ League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United, but is available for Spur’s Europa League matches.
The Uruguay international is currently in line to return to domestic action against Wolves on December 29 but could be available earlier if his ban is reduced.
Son said “we’re past this” in June
Both Tottenham and Son played down the incident at the time, but the FA hit the midfielder with a hefty sanction.
Son wrote on Instagram: “He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised. Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all.
“We’re past this, we’re united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one.”
Spurs also released a statement in which they said they supported the fact “our captain Sonny feels that he can draw a line under the incident.”
