Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has downplayed the need for immediate concern over Ruben Amorim’s upcoming role as Manchester United’s head coach, saying that City will only focus on their new arrival once Amorim is officially in the position.
Currently managing Sporting, Amorim is set to transition to United’s bench on November 11, meaning he will take charge of the club for Tuesday’s match against City, his second-to-last with the Portuguese side.
Amorim has been credited with a significant transformation at Sporting, a club that went two decades without a league title before his arrival.
But he will make a big step up when he heads to England, and Silva had both some words of encouragement and a warning for his compatriot.
“In terms of him going to Man Utd, I don’t wish him very well.” 😅

Silva, who played alongside Amorim at Benfica in the 2013-14 season said: “He always showed he could read the game because he played different positions – as a defender, on the left, as a midfield player.
“When he arrived, Sporting hadn’t been champions for 20 years. He changed the playing paradigm of Sporting. They are the best team in Portugal by far.
“He will be a rival, but I am glad someone else from Portugal is in the best league in the world.
“When Ruben becomes coach of Manchester United, we will worry about that then. Right now we want three points to get to the top eight.”
