Newcastle came from behind to make it five Premier League victories in a row as they beat Spurs 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Saturday’s early kick off.
Goals from Anthony Gordon and the in-form Alexander Isak ensured Eddie Howe’s side took all three points in London as their push for a top-four place gathers momentum.
Despite taking an early lead through Dominic Solanke, Spurs fell to their third defeat in four matches and remain in the bottom half of the table, without a league win since 15 December.
The Magpies, who have seen off the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa in recent weeks, move level on points with Chelsea, but the Blues play later today.

How the action unfolded
Solanke got Ange Postecoglou’s side off to the perfect start when he headed home brilliantly from Pedro Porro’s cross inside four minutes.

But the lead would not last for long. Just two minutes later, and with the new England manager Thomas Tuchel watching on from the stands, Gordon finished superbly from a tight angle to get Newcastle back on level terms.
If the first showcased some clinical forward play, there was perhaps a rather large chunk of good fortune about Newcastle’s second.
On 37-minutes, Jacob Murphy’s cross from the right clipped the outstretched leg of Radu Dragusin and right into the path of Isak who bundled the ball into the net for the seventh league game in succession.

In the end, it proved to be the difference between the two sides. Despite a flurry of late chances from the hosts in the second half and twelve minutes of stoppage time at the end, Postecoglou’s team failed to convert any of their opportunities and will be left to rue another frustrating afternoon.
For Howe and Newcastle, meanwhile, their fine recent run continues.
