Tottenham have been fined £20,000 by the Football Association after admitting to a charge of failing to control their players during their 4-1 victory over West Ham last weekend.

The FA charged both Tottenham and West Ham on Tuesday, accusing them of not ensuring their players refrained from acting in an “improper and/or provocative and/or violent” manner during the game.

Tottenham accepted responsibility and agreed to the fine related to the altercation that occurred during the match.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou admitted that the situation didn’t look good but insisted that there was no serious wrongdoing.

He said: “I’m not really sure what we did wrong.

“OK, there was a coming together, but I think a couple of our players had hit the deck by then, so you’d like to think we’d go in there and at least protect [one another].

“I thought our players controlled themselves, but obviously, the FA felt differently.”

The incident that triggered the charge involved West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, who kicked Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and then pushed both van de Ven and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in the face.

Initially shown a yellow card, Kudus’ punishment was upgraded to a red card following a review by the video assistant referee.

As a result, Kudus will serve a three-match suspension.

Additionally, Kudus was charged separately for improper conduct regarding his behaviour following the red card incident.

He could face further punishment depending on the outcome of the investigation into this charge.

West Ham and Kudus have until Thursday to submit their responses to the FA regarding the charges.
