Liverpool have reportedly rejected an approach from Real Madrid for right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Sky Sports say no formal offer was made for the influential defender, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Alexander-Arnold is free to speak to other clubs about a pre-contract agreement at midnight on January 1, which would see him move when his Reds deal expires.

Spanish media say the Liverpool academy graduate has informed the Merseyside club that he wants to join Real.

But Los Blancos are seemingly sounding out a move for the 26-year-old is January, which Liverpool have rebuffed as they continue to fight for the Premier League title.

He is one of three key stars out of contract in the summer alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking in December, Alexander-Arnold said: “I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”

Slot: Trent celebration ‘tells you enough’

After scoring in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham on Saturday, Alexander-Arnold celebrated with a chirping gesture with his hand, seemingly in a reference to the intense speculation over his future.

Asked about the celebration, Reds manager Arne Slot said: “No, I don’t think it’s negative at all. He’s playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough. I don’t think I have to say much more about it.

“I’m really happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo [Salah] and with Virgil. So for me, there’s no difference.

“For the outside world, maybe there’s a bit more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two but I’m happy with all three of them at the moment.”
