Everton boss Sean Dyche says it is “unlikely” they will sign more players before the summer transfer window shuts.

The Toffees were linked with Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier by The Athletic on Thursday after reports he was looking to leave the Magpies.

Everton have signed Jake O’Brien, Iliman N’Diaye, Tim Iroegbunam and Jesper Lindstrom this summer.

Asked about more incomings, Dyche said: “I think it is unlikely. We have worked hard in this market to bring in players who can grow into the club and the Premier League. We believe they are talented players.

“We worked very hard to get those deals done, then we have lost some players, so there is not much more wiggle room.

“The club seem steadfast with the business we have done.”

Asked specifically about Trippier, Dyche said: “He’s one of many names that has come up here.

“As if by magic, his name comes up when we don’t have a right-back available”.

Everton vs Tottenham

Everton face Tottenham on Saturday fresh off a comprehensive 3-0 home defeat to Brighton in their Premier League opener.

On that defeat, the Toffees boss said: “The positives were that it was a very thorough performance until two very big mistakes.

“They [the players] are searching for true fitness and we have got a few more that might not be available this weekend.

“There haven’t been too many easy rides since I’ve been here and we are immediately back to square one again. That is just Everton!”

Spurs were denied by Jamie Vardy’s header as they drew 1-1 with promoted Leicester but Dyche knows it will be difficult occasion away to the Champions League hopefuls.

He added: “They are all big games in the Premier League but this is about reacting on this occasion. Tottenham are a tough task, they are very strong and have invested heavily. We are stretched.

“We are down to about 14 recognised first-team players, so that is not perfect. But the challenge is right in front of us as always.”

Tarkowski a doubt

Dyche is without a number of defensive players, with James Tarkowski potentially joining an absentee list which includes Jarrad Branthwaite, Seamus Coleman and the suspended Ashley Young.

He said: “Jarrad Branthwaite is still a bit away. He is not close [to a return] at the moment. A few of the lads like Seamus Coleman and James Garner are getting a bit closer and have just come back into training with the group.

“James Tarkowski has got a ‘maybe’ situation so we will have to look at that going into the next game. We obviously know the right-back situation with Ashley Young now suspended as well.

“It is an ongoing challenge. We haven’t got much financially to correct it so we are just going to work with the players and hope they can get back to being fit and then stay fit.”
