Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery is sweating on the fitness of a few key players ahead of the match against Aston Villa this weekend.

The former Villarreal boss says Ezri Konsa, Amadou Onana, Boubacar Kamara and Jacob Ramsey will all be unavailable for the match in the Midlands.

But there is some good news from the Spanish manager.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “We are adding other players [to training] after small injuries like [Matty] Cash and [Ross] Barkley.

“We are going to try to feel confident with the players we have in the squad, trying to be ready when the opportunity to play is coming for them.

Pressed on Konsa and Onana specifically, he said: “They have small injuries.

“They have to rest and recover. Each day is important. Maybe [they] could come back for the next match, but I have to focus on the players we have now.”

It is a busy period for Villa as they look to navigate the hectic Premier League schedule around Christmas and the Champions League.

They need to continue putting up points if they want to return to Europe’s top competition next season.
