Aston Villa boss Unai Emery says Jhon Duran is ready to start for the club after impressing in the Premier League this term.

Villa have been flying domestically and in Europe as they continue to grow under their Spanish boss and despite having Ollie Watkins as their main striker, Duran has been knocking on the door.

He has scored six goals already in 2024-25, the majority of them coming off the bench.

And in his latest press conference, Emery has hinted that he may have to find a way to accommodate both Watkins and Duran.

He said: “I am thinking in him how with his process here and how he is progressing how important it is for him to start in these matches.

“Maybe tomorrow or maybe in the next games we play.

“He’s ready and his next challenge is coming.

“Jhon Duran’s performances have been very good for us, playing minutes and getting more minutes for him. I think this month is the same.”

Injury updates

It is good news all around for Villa as the Premier League returns from the international break.

Emery has provided an injury update ahead of the trip to the capital, and some key stars are nearing a return to fitness.

He added: “They are getting better. [Boubacar] Kamara and [Tyrone] Mings are available, they are going to travel with us to Fulham.

“[John] McGinn is training this week normally with us and feeling good.

“[Ezri] Konsa and Jadon [Philogene] as well are feeling good. It is the first time this year where more or less we have everyone available.

“[Amadou] Onana is okay as well. It’s good news.”

The former Villarreal ended by giving his opinion on England appointing Tuchel, admitting he is a great choice and a great coach.

He added: “I can only speak about him as a coach. He is an amazing coach. He has great experience in different countries and he has won the Champions League.”
