Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to be named as the Leicester City manager, according to reports.
Van Nistelrooy appears primed for an almost immediate return to the Premier League – as per The Telegraph – after leaving his role as interim Manchester United boss following the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
It is believed the Dutchman has held extensive talks with the Leicester hierarchy this week, with the 48-year-old available without compensation needing to be paid.
The news comes just three days after Steve Cooper was sacked as Foxes manager following defeat to his predecessor, Enzo Maresca, now at the helm of high-flying Chelsea on Sunday.
After the game, footage emerged of the Leicester players dancing in a nightclub in Copenhagen, in front of a sign that read: “Enzo I miss you.”

The Foxes are currently 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
Other possible candidates for the Leicester job, including Graham Potter and ex-West Ham manager David Moyes, have reportedly been ruled out.
By comparison, Van Nistelrooy has little management experience. He did, however, guide PSV Eindhoven to the KNVB Cup in the 2022-23 season before leaving towards the end of that campaign.
During his interim spell at Old Trafford, the Red Devils legend oversaw two United victories over Cooper’s Leicester, one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League.
The league win, a comfortable 3-0 romp, was, Van Nistelrooy’s final game in charge of United.
