Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has described himself as “absolutely gutted” for Yerson Mosquera after the defender suffered a serious knee injury in their 3-1 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa last Saturday.
Colombia defender Mosquera is expected to miss the rest of the season, starting with the visit of Liverpool on Saturday (5.30pm BST).
“He’s a great kid so I’m absolutely devastated for him because of his energy and his life,” said O’Neil, whose side led until the 73rd minute at Villa Park.
“No matter how things go each week, he gives absolutely everything and he always attacks things and does things in the right way.
“It’s a big loss to us from that point of view. He was showing signs that he was capable of playing at the level we were hoping. We’re always going to suffer setbacks in a Premier League season and this is a big one, especially for Yerson personally.”
Liverpool await on Saturday.

Defender Toti Gomes has also been out since sustaining a hamstring injury earlier this month. “We’ll test him again in the morning,” said O’Neil.
“He trained a bit this week. I wouldn’t say he was fully fit but there is still another day to go and he’s getting closer. A little bit more to do. In an ideal world, you’d probably leave him a little bit longer. We’ll see how he is.”
Wolves’ squad has been hit by “quite a bit of illness”, O’Neil confirmed. “There are probably a few who will need a check on how they’re feeling,” he said.
“[First-team] Doctor Kai Win has been busy this week trying to help the lads feel a little bit better, and quite a few missed training today.”

Wolves are bottom of the table after losing four of their first five league matches, although they also spurned a lead against Newcastle in their last home game.
“We’ve got a few issues going on at the moment but we’re looking forward to getting back out there in front of the home fans and making it as difficult as possible for Liverpool, which is what we try to do every time we played one of the big sides,” said O’Neil ahead of the visit of opponents who are a point off the top of the pile.
“The work [the players have] done to get themselves in positions has been good but you don’t get anything for that. We do need to make sure that we complete the package.”
