Rangers goalkeeper and vice-captain Jack Butland will miss the Old Firm clash against Celtic on Thursday after being admitted to hospital, the club has confirmed.

It was revealed the 31-year-old former Stoke City and Crystal Palace shot stopper suffered an internal bleed on his leg which required medical care.

Butland has since been released from hospital but will miss the match with Celtic at Ibrox.

Captain James Tavernier will also be absent through injury, while right-back Neraysho Kasanwirjo defender Leon Balogun also look set to miss the game.

“We are going to lose Tavernier. He got an injury at the end of the game. He took a scan and there is a small injury there and will be out for a few weeks,” manager Philippe Clement said.

Rangers have endured a disappointing season so far. The 55-time Scottish league champions trail leaders Celtic by 14 points and have failed to win either of their last two games.

Clement’s side have fared slightly better in the Europa League this term, winning three, drawing two, and losing one of their six games to leave them eighth in the 36-team table.
