Will Barcelona’s relentless winning streak continue?

On Wednesday night, goals from Raphinha and the returning Robert Lewandowski saw Barça to a 2-1 victory over Real Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

This saw Xavi’s team reach the 50 points mark at the mid-way point of the season, a feat also achieved by the ultra-impressive Arsenal and Napoli elsewhere in Europe.

The Blaugrana’s success has been built on defence, with Jules Koundé’s late own goal in mid-week just the seventh time they’ve conceded in La Liga, three of which came at the Bernabéu.

So, having won all four league fixtures in 2023, Barça remain five points clear of Real Madrid.

Next weekend, the Catalan giants will get the chance to extend that lead further, while their rivals are in Morocco competing at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Sevilla meanwhile ended last season just three points below Barcelona, but spent this Christmas in the relegation zone.

Since the turn of the year though, los Nervionenses have enjoyed a trio of home wins over relegation rivals, beating Getafe, Cádiz and, most-recently, Elche.

Youssef En-Nesyri bagged a brace, with Marcos Acuña also on target, in last Sunday’s 3-0 victory at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

As a result, Jorge Sampaoli’s side have moved up to 13th, albeit still only two points clear of the drop zone.

Away from home, Sevilla have won just twice in La Liga this season, beating Espanyol in September and Mallorca the following month.

Thus, everything points towards a routine home win at Camp Nou.
