Europa Conference League

The Europa Conference League final is taking place on Wednesday when Olympiacos meet Fiorentina in Athens. Fans may be looking ahead to Saturday’s Champions League final, but you need only think back to 12 months ago and the drama that took place as West Ham were crowned champions of UEFA’s third-tier competition.

Both sides are deserving of their place in the final and it should be a scoring frenzy when they meet. Olympiacos hammered Aston Villa 6-2 on aggregate in the semi-final while Fiorentina have scored 25 goals on their road to the finale.

Date and Time

The game takes place on Wednesday, May 29. It kicks off at 8pm UK BST.

The Key Battles

For Olympiacos, there is only one man to focus on: Ayoub El Kaabi.

The Morocco striker single-handedly took down Villa in the previous round, netting five times across both legs.

He has been in prolific form for the Greek side this season, netting 18 times in the league as well.

Fiorentina’s main task will be stopping the 30-year-old and they will be relying on Nikola Milenkovic in defence.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and he has been formidable for the Serie A side.

Fiorentina only conceded three goals across four matches in the quarter and semi-finals so it is a case of seeing who breaks first on the big stage.

No team have any real injury concerns although Ricardo Sottil will be missing.

Both managers will be desperate to get their hands on a major piece of silverware and it may come down to their expertise and in-game management to separate the two sides.
