The Cameroonian Football Federation has given released an official statement regarding the situation surrounding the exclusion and temporary suspension of star goalkeeper André Onana.
Per reports from football insider Fabrizio Romano earlier today, Onana was axed from Rigobert Song’s matchday XI against Serbia due to a discussion with Song after his insistence on a different style of goalkeeping in line with more a ‘traditional’ approach. Onana was said to have no intention of changing his style, which led to a tense situation between both parties.
Onana has since removed himself from the Cameroonian squad and will not return to duty in the 2022 World Cup, with Song now having to turn to 29-year-old Devis Epassy who featured in goal in Cameroon’s 3-3 draw against Dragan Stojković’s Оrlovi. Since then, FECAFOOT has released a statement from General Secretary Blaise Djounang in a show of unwavering support for Song and the collective squad in Qatar.
