Best goalkeepers on FPL

In this article, we will highlight the top 5 goalkeepers worth picking up in your Fantasy Premier League side for the 2021/22 campaign.

5) Daniel Bachmann, Watford (4.5m)

Budget goalkeepers can often be key to your FPL success in any given season.

They allow you to allocate more money to other higher profile areas of your squad, whilst still earning a decent points return.

So, FPL users are now on the lookout for the next gem between the sticks. And one such option could be Watford’s Daniel Bachmann.

There is always some added risk when selecting a newly promoted player early in the season. But Watford boasted a very impressive defensive record in the Championship last season, and their solidity continues to look like the strongest aspect of the club’s squad.

The Hornets would concede just 30 goals in 46 league outings last time out. After being handed the reins as Watford’s no.1 midway through the campaign, meanwhile, Bachmann conceded just 11 goals in 23 games.

4) Robert Sanchez, Brighton (4.5m)

The 2nd and perhaps less risky budget FPL keeper you may wish to target is Brighton’s Robert Sanchez.

Like Bachmann, Sanchez did not start 2020/21 as his club’s no.1 keeper. But after taking over from Mat Ryan, the Spaniard proved one of the better shot-stoppers in the English top-flight.

In just 27 league appearances, Sanchez was able to keep 10 clean sheets, helping Brighton to the joint-7th best defensive record in the Premier League last term.

As such, if he can keep up such form across 38 games in 2021/22, Sanchez should prove to be a real bargain at just 4.5m.

3) Illan Meslier, Leeds United (5.0m)

Elsewhere, Illan Meslier could represent a great reasonably-priced pick, with the potential to match Emi Martinez’s impressive exploits last time out.

Leeds were not the best side defensively in 2020/21, but they did still manage 11 shutouts.

And, even in the games in which the Whites did concede, Illan Meslier often nevertheless secured more than one or two points through the number of saves he made.

The Frenchman would make 3.83 saves per 90 last year. Only the since-relegated Sam Johnstone had a higher total per 90 across all goalkeepers to have played more than one game in the Premier League.

2) Edouard Mendy, Chelsea (6.0m)

If you do not fancy a budget keeper, and instead want to spend a decent sum on the position, there are some stellar options available to you.

One such player is Edouard Mendy, who looks set to continue as Chelsea’s no.1 this time out.

The Blues ended last season with the 2nd best defensive record in the league. But it is worth noting that they only really started to look a solid defensive unit on the back of Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in late January.

So, with the German at the helm from the off this coming season, we should see Mendy improve upon his already impressive total of 16 clean sheets from last term.

1) Ederson, Manchester City (6.0m)

The side to have kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League last time out was Manchester City, who allowed just 32 goals all campaign.

This would lead to Ederson earning his 2nd Golden Glove with the club, after managing 19 shutouts and conceding just 28 goals. Scott Carson let in four in one outing versus Newcastle after City already had the league title wrapped up.

So, with Ruben Dias and John Stones expected to continue to build on their impressive partnership at the heart of the Sky Blues’ defence in 2021/22, Ederson should again be amongst the Golden Glove competitors.
