Liverpool legend Alan Hansen is out of hospital following illness, his family have announced in an update on the club’s website.
The Reds said on June 9 that the 69-year-old had been admitted and was “seriously ill”, with messages of support ensuing from across football.
Hansen’s family issued a message of thanks for the “wonderful messages of love and support” they had received, adding that the former defender would “continue his recovery at home”.
“It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously,” they said. “We also hugely appreciate the ongoing respect that has been shown for our privacy.”
Alan Hansen Liverpool stats
Hansen made 620 appearances for Liverpool in a glittering playing career, winning eight league titles and the European Cup three times.
He won 26 caps for Scotland and later turned his hand to punditry, becoming a regular on BBC Sport’s Match of the Day until he stood down in 2014.
Liverpool called Hansen a player “of the utmost elegance” with an “outstanding raft of honours” from his 14 years at Anfield.
“‘Jocky’, as he was known by team-mates, is in the top 10 for all-time appearances for the club,” they said of their ex-captain.
