Liverpool manager Arne Slot says nothing has been easy since he took over as manager in the summer.

The Reds boss was sharing his thoughts after his side beat West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup third round and emphasised that the Premier League rarely allows for easy victories.

England’s most successful club will admit the scoreline flattered them in the end, hammering on the pain to their opponents late despite going 1-0 behind.

But it was job done for the Dutchman, who has lost just one game so far since replacing Jurgen Klopp.

Slot noted that his experience so far in England’s top flight has reinforced just how tough each game can be, regardless of who the opponent is.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “If you’re facing a team like West Ham, who have a lot of quality, they can press you. Second half they were also threatening on set-pieces.

“Since I’ve been here it’s never been easy, although sometimes the result looks different, but probably that’s the Premier League. Every team has quality players.

“I do feel like in most parts of the game we had control. We had a large part of ball possession, particularly in the first half.”

One of the highlights of the game came from Cody Gakpo, who scored a stunning goal late on after enjoying a postive Euro 2024 with the Netherlands this summer.

Slot was full of praise for his fellow Dutchman, suggesting that it was a deserved moment for the player who has been impressing in this term.

He added: “He deserved that, like others deserved it as well. It was good to see Cody have such a fantastic shot.

“I’ve never worked with a group of players who don’t want to play. Everywhere is the same, players like to play, especially to be part of a winning group.”

Liverpool’s victory against West Ham keeps them in the Carabao Cup, with a trip to Brighton next on the cards in October.
