Manchester City faced Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Manchester City beat Arsenal to the Premier League title last term and also dominated them in the head-to-head standings.
City did the league double over the Gunners and also knocked them out of the FA Cup.
Things were different this past weekend, however, as Arsenal came from 1-0 down to eventually beat Manchester City on penalties.
After the game, Pep Guardiola labelled Arsenal as extraordinary:
“The team behaved unbelievable,” he said, as reported by The Athletic. “In the second half, there was a lot of attacking players there, we pushed a lot. It’s normal. We are not NBA — (where) you finish (a season) and have three months off. Not here. You have to adapt. That is why I am surprised how good we behaved. We faced an extraordinary team and we were close.”
Community Shield winners have finished as Premier League champions only once since 2011. Man City also lost this game last season before going on to win the treble.
