Arsenal have identified their future backup to star defender William Saliba, and are ready to make a move for the defender this summer according to reports.

Coming into the season, there were question marks as to whether Saliba, who had spent the last three seasons out on loan, would be a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans. However, he has become a key part of Arsenal’s backline, with the Frenchman playing every game before being injured in their Europa League defeat to Sporting in March.

In the time since, Arsenal have seen their excellent form jolt to a halt, with three draws and a defeat coming from their last four games, and the Frenchman’s presence at the back has clearly been a major miss.

As a result, central defence is a position that the Gunners are looking to strengthen this summer, and according to the Express, they have identified Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as just the man to help them do that.

The Englishman, still just 22-years-old himself and formerly part of the Chelsea youth set up, has become a mainstay at Selhurst Park since his arrival in 2021, and his performances have also seen him rewarded with three senior England caps.

He has missed just one game this season, and has captained the side on several occasions, while his contract doesn’t run out until 2026, meaning that it would be an expensive addition for Arsenal should they wish to make a move.

Though a move altogether seems unlikely given all of the above, Guehi remains a player that ‘interests’ the Gunners.
