Arsenal headed into the game on a poor run of form that has seen them knocked off the summit of the Premier League.
Manchester City beat the Gunners 3-1 on Wednesday and went above them on goal difference.
Arsenal did still have a game in hand on City, but a loss on Saturday would likely render that game in hand fairly pointless.
And, at the time of writing, Arsenal are behind to their former coach.
Ollie Watkins opened the scoring after five minutes following a lovely ball from Matty Cash.
Bukayo Saka put Arsenal back on level terms 11 minutes later, but Villa regained the lead shortly after the half-hour mark.
Ben White is terrible.

They really tried to convince us that 50m for Ben White wasn’t overpriced
