Kai Havertz was handed his Arsenal debut on Thursday, coming on at half-time against Nurnberg with his team 1-0 up thanks to Bukayo Saka’s opening goal.

However, Havertz underwhelmed in his new surroundings and failed to have any impact of note from the wing.

Before Havertz completed his Arsenal switch, it was speculated that the German would be used in a no.8 role alongside Martin Odegaard, with Declan Rice sitting deep in the midfield three.

But with Havertz used out wide on Thursday, it remains to be seen where he will end up playing most of his football for the Gunners.

Speaking after the friendly on Thursday, Mikel Arteta was quizzed on where Havertz’s best position will be for Arsenal and said:

“We will see,” he replied. “We have to see how he adapts and get to know each other and build relationships.

Should Arteta end up using Havertz out wide, it will likely go down as a very poor transfer as the German has proven for Chelsea he cannot operate well in that role in the Premier League.
