Aston Villa team news & predicted line-up vs Everton

Villa’s 4-2 loss at home against Arsenal after jumping to a 2-0 lead showed promise as Unai Emery continues to make a difference in Birmingham, but another stern test against Everton awaits as Aston Villa looks to end a three-match losing run

Unai Emery did not enjoy a reunion with his former charge Arsenal last weekend after Aston Villa’s early 2-0 lead was ruthlessly canceled out in the second half as Mikel Arteta’s table-topping Gunners stormed back to a 4-2 win at Villa Park, subjecting the Birmingham-based club to their third consecutive Premier League defeat under the Spaniard.

Despite the recent tough run of form, Villa is certainly in better standing under the highly-experienced manager and is unquestionably much-improved in relation to their results under former boss Steven Gerrard. Still, a tricky customer in Everton this weekend is fully capable of putting Villa to the sword at Goodison Park after the Toffees have won two of their three league matches under new boss Sean Dyche, which included a 1-0 win against Arsenal on Merseyside in his Everton debut.

Predicted Aston Villa XI

Aston Villa Team News

  • Out: Diego Carlos
  • Doubt: Robin Olsen

Unai Emery will be thankful for a clean bill of health – all things considered – with an away day against Everton at Goodison Park looming at the weekend.

The Spanish headmaster remains without long-term absentee Diego Carlos as the Brazilian center-back has barely gotten his Villa career off the ground since his summer arrival from Sevilla, with just two appearances under his belt to date.

Backup keeper and Swedish international Robin Olsen is a doubt to feature in the matchday squad and will face a late assessment to gauge his availability, though his avenue to a starting birth is non-existent unless first-choice keeper Emi Martínez suffers an injury of his own.
