Vinicius Jr

Rodri will win the Ballon d’Or this evening, prompting favourite Vinicius Jr and the rest of the Real Madrid delegation to snub the event, according to reports in Spain.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who is likely to miss the rest of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, will claim the award for his part in the club’s fourth successive Premier League title.

He was also instrumental in Spain’s European Championship victory over the summer.

The news contradicts overnight suggestions on social media that Vinicius Jr had come first with Rodri second.

Leading Spanish newspaper AS claims Vinicius, who starred as Real Madrid claimed a La Liga and Champions League double last season, will now not attend the ceremony in Paris tonight.

Madrid president Florentino Perez, coach Carlo Ancelotti and England midfielder Jude Bellingham will also be absent as a sign of protest.
