Spanish giants Barcelona have, on Saturday, provided an insight into the current wellbeing of injured defender Andreas Christensen.

For those not aware, Christensen is one of two players to have set pulses racing back at the Camp Nou across the international break to date.

After Frenkie de Jong was forced to withdraw from the Dutch squad owing to a hamstring complaint, Christensen limped out of Denmark’s European Championship qualifying win over Finland on Thursday.

The former Chelsea standout appeared to pick up a muscular issue early in proceedings in Copenhagen, with ensuing reports having pointed towards a potentially prolonged spell out of action.

Amid the club’s ongoing push for a domestic double, the Barcelona faithful, in turn, has since been left to wait for an update on Christensen’s situation.

And now, as alluded to above, as much has indeed been provided.

‘Tests carried out on Saturday on the first team player Andreas Christensen have shown that he has an injury to his left calf. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will determine his return.’

Though no precise timeline is provided for the 26-year-old’s return, it is expected that Christensen will miss a minimum of two to three weeks with the injury, meaning he will be unavailable for selection for the 2nd leg of Barca’s crunch Copa del Rey semi-final showdown with Clasico rivals Real Madrid early next month.
