The planned pre-season friendly between Spanish and Italian heavyweights Barcelona and Juventus has been cancelled, it has been confirmed.
For those not aware, Barca and Juve were primed to lock horns in California later tonight.
This, of course, comes amid the respective clubs’ preparations for the fast-approaching 2023/24 campaign, with both also primed to take on AC Milan and Real Madrid over the course of the coming weeks.
And though the latter of these fixtures will be expected to go ahead as planned, as alluded to above, Saturday’s Levi’s Stadium showpiece will not.
This comes on the back of an official Barcelona statement a short time ago.
As confirmed across the Blaugrana’s website and social media platforms, a ‘significant part’ of the club’s first-team squad has been struck down by a bout of viral gastroenteritis.
Unable to carry out their commitments, Barca, as a result, were left with little choice but to inform Juventus of the game’s cancellation.
A rescheduling, at this moment in time, looks unlikely.
