German giants Bayern Munich have, on Thursday, been dealt a major blow on the transfer front.
This comes amid confirmation that a leading target on the part of Thomas Tuchel and co. has sprung a surprise, in putting pen to paper on fresh terms with his current employers.
The player in question? Joao Palhinha.
The name of midfielder Palhinha, of course, took its place front and centre at the Allianz Arena across the latter weeks of the transfer window.
This came upon word coming to the fore that the Portuguese international had been identified as the chief target to reinforce the base of Bayern’s engine room.
Palhinha, for his part, pushed hard for the move, unsurprisingly tempted by the prospect of lining out for one of European football’s biggest clubs.
João Palhinha deal, 100% OFF. No way to change the situation despite medical and media duties done today 🔴❌

The widespread understanding, as a result, was that Bayern were set to return to the negotiating table in January, in a fresh attempt to bring Palhinha in.
As alluded to above, though, on Thursday, the powers that be at the Allianz Arena have seen their hopes of striking a deal with Fulham dealt a major blow.
This comes amid confirmation that Palhinha has put pen to paper on fresh terms at Craven Cottage.
As per an official statement across Fulham’s website and social media platforms:
‘The Club is delighted to announce that João Palhinha and Harrison Reed have each signed new contracts with Fulham.’
Surprise… 😉
