German champions Bayern Munich are plotting a return for Manchester United man Scott McTominay this January after top target Joao Palhinha penned a new contract at Fulham.
The Portuguese midfielder was on the verge of joining Bayern on transfer deadline day, and had even gone as far as to complete a medical and take promotional photos for the announcement, only for a deal to fall through an hour before the German transfer window closed.
Palhinha has since signed a new contract in southwest London, tying him to the club until 2028 in what came as a shock announcement over the international break and a clear signal of intent from the 27-year-old, though it is unclear whether his improved deal also includes a release clause.
Should Bayern be unable to attain Palhinha though, the Mirror report that Manchester United outcast McTominay is on their wishlist as they bid to find a new defensive midfielder, with Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel thought to be a huge of the Scottish midfield man.
Handed his first start of the season in the 3-1 home defeat to Brighton on Saturday, McTominay has seen increasingly little football since Erik ten Hag’s arrival and the additions of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat in midfield over the summer will only leave him further down the pecking order at his boyhood club.
It is claimed that ‘Tuchel wants to offer him the chance to play at another of Europe’s biggest clubs’, where he would be joining up with one-time Manchester United targets Harry Kane and Kim Min Jae, both of whom made the switch to Bavaria over the summer.
