Bayern Munich are on the verge of signing rival star Raphael Guerreiro from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer when his contract with BVB runs out this summer, it has emerged, after the Portuguese defender had been linked with several clubs.
Guerreiro appeared 29 times in the Black and Yellow’s heartbreaking Bundesliga campaign, which saw them miss out on the German title on the final day courtesy of a draw with lowly Mainz at home.
Initially playing at left back, his season’s best moments came when he moved into midfield, chipping in with four goals and 12 assists in an impressive season on a personal note.
His ability to play both on the left and centrally had seen him linked with Arsenal, who employed similar tactics with Oleksandr Zinchenko as they too finished runners up in heartbreaking fashion.
With no obvious backup for Zinchenko, and fellow left-back Kieran Tierney seemingly primed to leave for pastures new this summer amid interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa, a move for the Portuguese defender had been mooted.

However, that has not materialised and Guerreiro will instead be following the well-trodden path of swapping Dortmund for fellow German giants Bayern Munich, emulating the likes of Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski in the process.
The move will only heap further speculation on the future of Alphonso Davies, who has opted not to extend his contract this summer and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid this transfer window.
