A head-turning story surrounding the sudden outflux of players from the Dutch national team squad has, late on Thursday, come to the fore online.
For those not aware, the subject of personnel woes has taken its place front and centre in the Oranje camp over the last 24 hours.
This comes after no fewer than five players called up by Ronald Koeman were forced into premature departures.
Ahead of a pair of European Championship qualifying fixtures against France and Gibraltar, all of Cody Gakpo, Matthijs de Ligt, Sven Botman, Joey Veerman and Bart Verbruggen, after first linking up with their fellow countrymen, subsequently returned home.

‘Illness’ was cited as the reason behind all five stars exiting, albeit the origin of which had remained unclear.
That is, until now…
The info comes courtesy of reliable Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who points towards a ‘strong belief’ that a tainted chicken curry served for dinner on Wednesday is behind the woes of the Oranje:
“In and around the Dutch National Team there is strong belief that the chicken curry – served yesterday evening by the staff – is the reason why De Ligt, Botman, Gakpo, Veerman and Verbruggen got ill and had to leave.”
