Match report
Champions League holders Real Madrid got the defence of their title up and running in emphatic fashion on Tuesday, at the expense of Scottish giants Celtic.
Carlo Ancelotti’s troops made the trip to Glasgow a short time ago, hopeful of keeping alive a flawless opening to the campaign.
And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Los Blancos went on to do.
It was actually Celtic who enjoyed the better of things over the course of the opening 45 minutes, putting their illustrious visitors on the back foot and even rattling Thibaut Courtois’ post.
Callum McGregor came so close to making the Celtic fans go wild! 😱

Following the interval, though, both the class and experience boasted amongst Ancelotti’s ranks shone through.
First, Vinicius Jr slotted home the game’s opener, after getting on the end of a pinpoint delivery from Federico Valverde.

And there was still time for Hazard himself to get in on the act, too, slotting into an empty net after some fine work down the right courtesy of Dani Carvajal.

33 – There were 33 uninterrupted passes in the build-up to Eden Hazard’s 🇧🇪 goal this evening; since 2003-04 (as far back as data is available), this is the most in the build-up to any of @realmadriden‘s 434 goals in the Champions League in this period. Waltz. pic.twitter.com/zzcG3ME7Vd

Celtic outclassed in the second half but take yourself back a year and it’s a team and a club who have made so much progress under Ange Postecoglou. Real Madrid were ruthless that’s the difference at this level🍀
