Before that, though, there was plenty of action across the league. Here is everything you need to know about gameweek 3 of this season’s Championship.

Championship round-up

Watford were once again playing on an evening in gameweek 3, this time kicking things off vs Burnley on Friday. The Hornets spent much of the game on the back foot and did have a man sent off late on. However, they were still able to come away with a 1-0 win.

Saturday’s early Championship kick-off then saw Cardiff batter Birmingham and come away with a 1-0 win.

This was followed by plenty of action in the 3 pm games. Some of the more eye-catching results saw Hull beat Norwich City. That defeat leaves Dean Smith’s side bottom of the Championship after three games.

Elsewhere, Sunderland continued their unbeaten start to life back in the second tier by drawing 2-2 with QPR.

Rotherham also smashed Reading 4-0, Millwall edged out Coventry in an enthralling 3-2 win, Swansea beat Blackpool 1-0, Preston beat Luton 1-0, Huddersfield saw off Stoke by three goals to one and Wigan drew with Bristol City.

The first one saw Middlesbrough host Sheffield United as they went in search of their first win of the campaign.

However, Boro’s defence cost them again and a brace from former Arsenal man Chuba Akpom was not enough to hand Chris Wilder’s side a win, thanks to an early Sander Berge goal and an own goal from Ryan Giles.

The final outing of the week was played out between Blackburn and West Brom. The Rovers won 2-1 and are the only side in the Championship to have won all three games of the season so far.
