Chelsea have accepted that they will lose Mateo Kovacic this summer with the Croatian midfielder attracting attention from all of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Blues are expected to have a major squad clearout this summer, with plenty of big names set to leave Stamford Bridge in search of first-team football.

Having posted losses of £121million for last season and with an overly bloated squad, Kovacic could be one of those allowed to depart.

The Blues have made a new policy not to allow any player to hold the club to ransom, with no star allowed to let his contract dip below the two years left mark. Reportedly admired by Manchester City and AC Milan, Kovacic is out of contract in the summer of 2024.

As a result, the 28-year-old could be sold in a bid to raise funds for yet more additions, with the Guardian reporting that Chelsea ‘have accepted that they are likely to lose Mateo Kovacic this summer’, with both Manchester clubs and Bayern Munich thought to be among those interested.

‘There is no indication an agreement will be reached with the Croatia international over a contract extension’, they add, which could see the Blues cash in rather than lose the midfielder for free in 12 months’ time.

It is unclear how much Chelsea would demand for the midfielder, with the Blues needing to comply with FFP regulations by July 1st. It means that they could lose Kovacic on the cheap.
