Thomas Tuchel was let go early in the campaign, leading to Graham Potter taking the reins.
New owner Todd Boehly promised to give Potter time to rebuild and imbed countless new faces that arrived both in the summer and this past January.
And to the American’s credit, he held off on sacking Potter for some time despite many people calling for him to go.
However, the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa that left Chelsea languishing in midtable with just 10 games to go was seemingly the final straw. Potter was relieved of his duties on Sunday night and two Chelsea players have now spoken out on the decision to depart with Potter.
Following Graham Potter’s sacking on Sunday night, Ben Chilwell became the first senior star to publicly respond with an Instagram post of his embrace with the coach during Chelsea’s win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, captioned: “Thank you gaffer.”
Marc Cucurella followed shortly followed suit with a message wishing ‘best of luck for the future’ to his old boss at Brighton.
