Chelsea face the final part of their season left to salvage as they head to the Santiago Bernabeu hopeful of a European fairytale under Frank Lampard.

The Blues, who sit 11th in the Premier League and have appointed the former legendary player as their interim coach until the end of the season, are in woeful form, having won just one of their last five games.

Resigned to no European football next season via a Premier League finish this season, winning the Champions League would be their only avenue into the competition next year, but they face Real Madrid for the third time in three seasons.

Currently tied at one apiece, whoever won this game has gone on to win the whole competition in the last two tournaments, and the Blues will be hoping they can make that three against all the odds this time around.

Read on for the latest Chelsea team news and how we expect Lampard to set the Blues up at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Predicted XI

Team News

Chelsea’s injury-plagued squad is showing signs of returning to full fitness, but though key defender Thiago Silva is back in full training, Wednesday’s clash at the Bernabeu will likely come too soon for his return to action.

Cesar Azpilicueta is yet to return to first team football after a nasty head injury against Southampton, while Mason Mount continues to manage a groin injury which saw him miss the England internationals in March.

Armando Broja is also absent through a long term knee injury picked up during the World Cup break.

Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all ineligible having not been registered, or in the case of Aubameyang, deregistered in the January transfer window.
