Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he is not focused on chasing 1,000 career goals after moving closer to that landmark with a double in Al-Nassr’s 3-1 win over Al-Hilal.

Ronaldo was on target twice to give Al-Nassr their first win in the capital derby in the league since December 2021.

The brace moved Ronaldo onto 931 career goals but, speaking after the game, he refused to indulge talk of him reaching four figures.

“Guys, let’s enjoy the moment. I’m not chasing 1,000. If it happens, perfect. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen,” said Ronaldo.

“The moment is the most special thing not what is going to come you know. Enjoy the moment and it was a great win not because I scored of course.

“I’m happy to score two goals against Al-Hilal but the most important thing is to win the derby.

“We play against a fantastic team away, it’s always difficult, we have to appreciate and we have to continue because nine games left with one more in the Champions League.

“Everything is possible, we have to continue and believe.”

Al-Nassr’s win saw them move within seven points of league leaders Al-Ittihad, who face Al-Ahli Saudi on Saturday.

Stefano Piol’s men are also in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League and face Yokohama F. Marinos on April 26.
