Spanish giants Barcelona have, on Friday evening, confirmed that head coach Xavi Hernandez has officially extended his stay with the club.
For those not aware, the subject of Xavi’s future has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the early weeks of the new season.
This comes with the former Blaugrana midfielder’s current deal due to expire before the campaign is out.
Though considerable sections of the Barca fanbase have continued to express doubt over his credentials as the right fit long-term on the Camp Nou bench, Xavi has repeatedly been backed by the powers that be at the club.
This, of course, comes after the Spanish tactician guided his side to the La Liga title in his first full season in the dugout.
Claims, in turn, spread across the week to date, pointing towards Xavi inching closer to extending his terms with Barcelona.
As per an official statement across the Blaugrana’s website and social media platforms:
‘FC Barcelona and coach Xavi Hernández have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract until 20 June 2025 with the option of an additional year. The signing took place this Friday the Spotify Camp Nou offices in the presence of president Joan Laporta; first vicepresident Rafa Yusta; Economic vicepresident, Eduard Romeu and the director of the Area of Football, Anderson Luis de Souza, ‘Deco’.’
Xavi is also understood to have secured a considerable pay bump as part of the deal.
