Arsenal played out their final pre-season game of the summer on Thursday before facing off with Manchester City for the Community Shield on Sunday.
The Gunners took on AS Monaco in the Emirates Cup final. Eddie Nketiah scored Arsenal’s only goal of the match to cancel out Youssouf Fofana’s opener.
Arsenal went on to win the tie on penalties. Following the game, Nketiah discussed what it was like to captain Arsenal for the first time:
“I found out just today, to be honest,” Nketiah said. “Obviously, I’ve captained the Under-21s. I like to take that pressure on and help the team and everyone leads in different ways and I kind of lead by example.
“So it’s a good experience for me and I’m really grateful to have had that opportunity and it’s a good opportunity for me to do that in front of my friends and family was a really nice moment.”
On new signing Declan Rice, Nketiah added: “Yeah, of course, obviously it is good to have [Rice] with us. He’s a great player.
