England get their 2022 World Cup campaign underway on Monday 21 November at 1 pm UK time.

The Three Lions will face off with Iran in their opening group game, a tie they are favourites to win.

However, England’s form since Euro 2020 has been pretty dismal and they have been relegated to the second tier of the UEFA Nations League.

Now, ahead of facing Iran, an insight into who could start for England has been provided.

As per the Daily Mail, Phil Foden is emerging as a strong contender to start England’s World Cup opener vs Iran on Monday.

It is added that Phil Foden’s Manchester City form has deeply impressed Gareth Southgate and Steve Holland and there is a sense within the England camp that had Foden been available for last year’s Euro final vs Italy, then they would have had a better opportunity to win the trophy.

However, as Bukayo Saka has also been playing well, we may see a front three of Foden, Saka and Harry Kane.
