Match report
An altogether underwhelming display on the part of Gareth Southgate’s England on Friday night saw the Three Lions forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a World Cup group stage meeting with the United States of America.
England marked their return to action a short time ago.
Riding high on the back of an opening day drubbing of Iran, the Three Lions made the trip to the Al Bayt Stadium, hopeful of sealing their spot in the competition’s knockout rounds courtesy of a 2nd successive three-point haul.
When all was said and done, though, as alluded to above, Southgate and co. were brought crashing back down to earth.
This came as a clash which saw the United States enjoy the better of things over lengthy stretches ultimately played out into a 0-0 stalemate.
Chelsea star Christian Pulisic came closest to finding an all-important winner, rattling the crossbar just beyond the half-hour mark in proceedings.

The United States’ fate, meanwhile, is also very much in their own hands, in the knowledge that victory over Iran next Tuesday night would see them march on as group runners-up.

0 – England haven’t won any of their three games against the USA at the World Cup; only against Brazil (4) have they played more games in the competition without winning. Thwarted. pic.twitter.com/uEuv6zdZgd

Nobody will ever be able to tell me Mount should be playing over Foden!!!

Very lethargic from England. Back to the conservative approach from Southgate. Where’s the attacking intent gone?

Meanwhile Tyler Adams superb for USA. Showing all the energy he brings to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds team but minus the lack of discipline.

Harry Kane. The one time you need him to be good he drops a stinker.

Poor performance from @England, but that happens at a World Cup at some stage. The big question, even with such a talented bunch, is whether the manager can change things positively with his tactics and substitutions when it’s not working.
