Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho could be set for a long spell on the sidelines, according to Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils placed Sancho on an individual training programme over the World Cup break after he suffered an unspecified injury in early November.
That meant Ten Hag left the player at home for United’s training camp in Spain.
However, whilst fans may have hoped that Sancho used his month off to regain fitness, that does not look to have been the case, with Ten Hag suggesting recently that Sancho is nowhere near the level of fitness required and they do not know when he can be brought back into the team:
“[Sancho]’s not fit enough to be here,” he told reporters at their Spanish training camp. “First, we didn’t see him the last games for United.
“So he wasn’t in the right status, in the right fitness state, so now he’s on an individual programme and we want him to finish that programme and hopefully, we see him back soon.
Of course, we are not aware of what exactly the injury was and how badly it impacted Sancho, but the fact he is still not close to fitness after a month off suggests a lack of effort on the part of the player.
