Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has, late on Thursday, provided updates on the wellbeing of two key members of his squad.
For those not aware, personnel woes have taken their place front and centre in the chatter surrounding United on Thursday night.
This comes on the back of the Red Devils’ Europa League showdown with La Liga outfit Sevilla.
On something of a nightmare evening for Ten Hag’s troops, which also saw them surrender a two-goal advantage en route to a 2-2 stalemate, both of United’s first-choice central defenders limped out of the action.
Raphael Varane was first to go, succumbing to an unspecified issue at the interval.
And Lisandro Martinez followed suit in altogether concerning fashion late on, pulling up suddenly, before clutching the back of his right foot, giving rise to suggestions of a potential Achilles injury.

And United’s headmaster went on to express understandable concern, in particular regarding the situation of Martinez:
“We have seen when Licha (Martinez) drops out and there was no opponent involved, so it doesn’t look great. We have to wait. I can’t say in this moment,” Ten Hag began.
He did confirm, though, that the World Cup winner has not suffered an Achilles blow.

On Varane, meanwhile, the Dutchman added:
“Same with Rapha [Varane]. I didn’t speak with him after the game but I know of an injury complaint over the last weeks so we have to see how it is now.”
