Spain manager Luis de la Fuente says the win over Italy at Euro 2024 was the best game his side have played since he took over as manager.
The 2010 World Cup winners were totally dominant against the reigning European champions and managed to pick up all three points to top Group B and book their place in the knockout stages.
It took an own goal to break the deadlock, with Riccardo Calafiori turning the ball into his own net 55 minutes, but La Roja had plenty of other chances across the 90 minutes.
Wingers Nico Williams and 16-year-old Lamine Yamal were particularly impressive and gave the Italy full-backs problems all night.
On another day, De la Fuente’s side would have scored more goals to reflect their dominance.
But the head coach was still delighted with how his team played and says they have huge ambitions at Euro 2024.

Speaking after the match, he said: “That might be the best game we’ve played of all the ones I’ve coached.
“We played against a superb, world-class team. We controlled and the only downer was not to convert more of our chances!
“I’m proud of the way the players have endless ambition, endless work ethic.
“I think the thing which stands out most to me was knowing how to play the different moments of this tough game.
