The tie was a big one for both sides. Manchester City kicked off 1st in the Premier League, one point above Arsenal with a game in hand.
A win over the Toffees would have all but guaranteed their champions’ status for another season.
As for Everton, they are still firmly in a relegation scrap, sitting just one point above the drop before kick-off at Goodison Park.
When all was said and done, Manchester City picked up the win.
Man City began the tie on the front foot but were struggling to create much in the opening exchanges. Neither side had a shot on goal in the opening 15 minutes.
In fact, the first shot of the game came after 27 minutes and was put wide by Riyad Mahrez.
It was Man City who took the lead, however, thanks to a wonderful bit of skill from Ilkay Gundogan.

The away outfit took their 2-0 lead into the break with an Everton comeback looking very unlikely.
City killed the game off five minutes into the second half, almost passing a free-kick into the Everton goal.
The Sky Blues largely dominated the second 45 and eased to a comfortable win.

Erling Haaland has scored 40% of Manchester City’s Premier League goals this season. Harry Kane (42%) is the only player to score a larger proportion of his team’s goals this season.

Gundogan will take some replacing this summer. For a long time it looked like that replacement might Bellingham. Who else could fill his boots?
