Everton return to Goodison Park looking to make it three home wins in a row under Sean Dyche as they take on Aston Villa, themselves on a run of three straight defeats.

The Toffees pulled clear of the relegation zone with a scruffy 1-0 win over Leeds United last weekend, having beaten Arsenal a fortnight before, and now sit 16th and a point clear of the drop zone.

They welcome a Villa side that are well in midtable and have lost consecutive games against Leicester City, Manchester City and Arsenal in their last three, conceding 11 goals in that process.

With both sides in opposing form, and Everton well aware that they need to utilise the home crowd if they are to stave off relegation this season, it threatens to be a tight affair, and Everton’s new-found defensive solidity will be tested by a Villa side that score plenty of goals (including five in their last three).

Predicted XI

Team News

There are not set to be any enforced changes for Sean Dyche and his side, but they have yet to welcome back some of their stars from injury.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is “building up well” but is not expected to be fit in time for the weekend’s clash, while Nathan Patterson has suffered a setback in his injury recovery, and will also be missing, leaving veteran Seamus Coleman to deputise at right back once again.

In better news, however, Amadou Onana is fit again after picking up a knock against Leeds United and is likely to return to midfield.
