The German Football Association have, on Sunday, confirmed the dismissal of head coach Hansi Flick.

For those who may have missed it, chatter surrounding the future of former Bayern Munich boss Flick came to a head just shy of 24 hours ago.

This came upon Germany playing host to Japan, in one of two friendly fixtures pencilled in for the international break.

When all was said and done at the Volkswagen Arena, Die Mannschaft were put to the sword in concerning fashion, by a hefty four goals to one.

All told, dating back to March, this extended the Germans’ winless streak to five games.

Just nine months out from acting as hosts for next summer’s European Championships, calls, in turn, spread like wildfire for change on the country’s bench.

As per an official statement across the website and social media platforms of the DFB:

‘The shareholders’ meeting and supervisory board of DFB GmbH and Co. KG decided today, at the suggestion of DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, to release national coach Hansi Flick and the two assistant coaches Marcus Sorg and Danny Röhl from their duties with immediate effect.’

The team of Rudi Völler, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner will take over German management duties for the time being, ahead of a highly-anticipated meeting with France on Tuesday night.

Amid confirmation that the DFB are working to find a replacement for Flick ‘as soon as possible’, though, an early frontrunner has emerged in the media, in the form of another ex-Bayern Munich headmaster, Julian Nagelsmann.
