An update on the wellbeing of Manchester United star Raphael Varane has come to the fore on Friday evening.
The situation at the heart of United’s backline, of course, has taken its place front and centre on the red half of Manchester over the last 24 hours.
This comes after not one, but both of the Red Devils’ first-choice centre halves were forced into premature departures from the club’s Europa League stalemate with Sevilla on Thursday night.
After Raphael Varane made way at the interval, Lisandro Martinez followed suit inside the closing five minutes at Old Trafford.
Ensuing reports on the latter point towards an extended incoming spell on the sidelines, with Martinez expected to sit out the remainder of the term with a metatarsal injury.

And the latest word on Varane to have come to the fore late on Friday night suggests that the Frenchman could too be in line for a lengthy spell on the treatment table.
‘There are concerns his campaign could also be over’, albeit with it added that ‘the club are hopeful that does not also prove the case’.
Lisandro Martinez set to miss rest of season after suffering metatarsal injury. Length of time out unconfirmed but will be past May.
