Mbappe has scored the most goals of any player in the history of the fixture

France captain Kylian Mbappe has been named on the bench for his side’s Uefa Euro 2024 Group D game against the Netherlands.

Real Madrid newcomer Mbappe left the pitch with a broken nose late in Les Blues’ opening 1-0 win against Austria on Monday.

Mbappe’s club team-mate, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, replaced him from the start in Leipzig, with forward Antoine Griezmann likely to play a more advanced role in the absence of their third-highest scorer of all time.

France v Netherlands team news

Griezmann is part of an attack also comprising Ousmane Dembele and Marcus Thuram as part of an unchanged lineup named by head coach Didier Deschamps.

Former Ballon d’Or contender N’Golo Kante was Player of the Match against Austria, who conceded to Maximilian Wober’s own goal.

Mbappe injury: Mask for forward

Mbappe has had a custom mask fitted to provide protection should he return to action before his injury has fully healed.

The 25-year-old is the record scorer in games between France and the Netherlands, finding the net six times in five appearances.

Deschamps has reverted to the 4-4-2 formation with which France won the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The Netherlands made one change to their starting side from their 2-1 victory against Poland in their opening group game, Joey Veerman making way for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

Cody Gakpo struck Oranje’s first-half equaliser in that game, when Wout Weghorst came off the bench to score the winner eight minutes from time.
