Manchester United signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to bolster their midfield ranks over the summer window.
Eriksen was expected to play back-up to Bruno Fernandes as a 10, but he has since been moved into a deeper role by Erik ten Hag.
This change makes sense given that the Dutchman wants to build from the back and none of his other defensive midfielders are capable of doing so at a high level.
Casemiro, meanwhile, has been playing second fiddle to Scott McTominay since he signed from Real Madrid as the latter has actually been performing fairly well.
Now though, Erik ten Hag has been told by Gilberto Silva that Fred and Casemiro should be starting together:
“He [Casemiro] can contribute a lot. He’s got quality. What he’s achieved in the last few years of his career, it’s amazing,” he said.
The case for Casemiro is a clear one, as he is a much better defender than McTominay, but it is hard to see Fred getting in over Eriksen.
