33-1 shot Nick Rockett held off last year’s winner I Am Maximus to win the 2025 Grand National in a thrilling race at Aintree.

Amateur jockey Patrick Mullins – the son of trainer Willie Mullins – rode home a stormer to win one of the most coveted horse racing events of the calendar year.

It was a brilliant afternoon for the Mullins family, who secured a one-two-three podium with Grangeclare West finishing third.

In fact, trainer Willie Mullins had five of the top seven, highlighting his continued dominance around the tracks whether it be in England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland.

Speaking after the race, jockey Patrick Mullins said: “I’m too out of breath to say anything. It is incredible. I got too good a start and had to take him back all the way but he jumped fantastic.

“It a dream from when I was a kid. When I was a kid I watched videos so this is very special. He’s fine – I need a cold bath myself. He’s not big but he is brave as a lion.”

It was also a very emotional win for owner Stewart Andrew, whose lost his wide Sadie in 2022 just days after watching Nick Rockett in his first race.

Broadway Boy had led for much of the race but suffered a crashing fall on the run, and there were about 15 horses left in the running as the race approached its final two jumps.
